SOLVENT-BASED EXTERIOR PAINTS
Solvent-based exterior paints, also known as oil-based paints, are particularly used for repainting or renovating older buildings. This is because many older buildings were originally painted with oil-based paint, and maintaining the same type of paint finish is often preferred. One of the basic rules for repainting exterior structures is that if the old paint is oil-based, it can be repainted with either water-based or solvent-based paint. However, a wall painted with water-based paint cannot be repainted with solvent-based paint.
Oil-Based Paints Provide a Traditional and Elegant Finish
Applications for solvent-based exterior paints include older wooden buildings and log structures. The surface finish left by oil-based paint has a traditional style that gives the final result a distinguished appearance. Please note that when using solvent-based paints, tools must be cleaned with a paint solvent.
